Want to Get Hired as a Professional Aerialist?

Thinking about putting those aerial skills you've been learning in class on a stage? Think being a fabulous performer is all it takes? You may be an amazing performer, but remember these tips.

Chances are you will not get hired, or rehired, as a professional aerialist if you;
  • Are not pleasant to be around
  • Act like a diva. (no one is that good.)
  • Lose your cool when things don’t go as planned (shit happens- the show must go on)
  • Lose your cool at all really
  • Disrespect anyone (the client, patrons, other artists, the janitor) {Don’t forget, YOU are the hired help}
  • Don’t respect the value of your service (in other words, undercutting) (in other words, I’m not going to hire and pay you a fair wage for you to turn around and offer the same service for free or cheap)
  • Are dangerous. Not strong enough to do that really cool move correctly, but you put it in your routine anyway? Rigging is sketchy but you reeeaaalllly want to perform, so you do? Bye, Felicia.
  • Are late or unreliable.
  • Don’t respect the business. Don’t pass out your business card to the client or their patrons. Go ahead and promote yourself on your own time. The agent/company hired you, they did the work, and they get the leads. If you are awesome to work with the company will hire you back for those leads! See how that works.
  • Show up to a gig mental or physically impaired.
  • Show up with the same hair and make-up you would wear on a date. Bigger is better when it comes to stage hair and makeup.
  • Are inflexible. I don’t mean physically. Sometime things change. Go with it and make it work for the client. Be helpful in finding safe alternative solutions to problems.

You are on stage for a fraction of the time during a gig. You behavior off stage is just as, if not more, important as your skills on it.  #BeProfess

Keep being awesome flyers!
